Restore iOS 5.0.1 and Preserve Baseband to Jailbreak and Unlock
How to Update / Restore iOS 5.0.1 and Preserve Baseband to Jailbreak and Unlock ? iOS 5.0.1 final public release and hackers have updated the jailbreak tools as well with Redsn0w and Sn0wbreez .
We posted a guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using redsn0w and here is another guide for Sn0wbreeze fans to be able to Update to iOS 5.0.1 without Jailbreak but Unlock iOS 5.0.1 or Jailbreak and Unlock iOS 5.0.1 but it is now UnTethered Jailbreak not Tethered Jailbreak.
Why Update to iOS 5.0.1 without Jailbreak and Preserve Baseband Only :
I prefer Not to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 these days with Tethered Jailbreak cause it needed every restart to connect to the PC / Mac to use the iDevice in Normal but you can also use Semi Tethered Jailbreak but also i Don’t prefer it cause it is make me Limited in using my iDevice But any way you will see the two Guides with or Without Jailbreak.
Sn0wbreeze can preserve your current baseband and update your device to iOS 5.0.1. Remember, the latest redsn0w version can do the same but for some reason people still opt for Sn0wbreeze.
This guide is for:
- iPhone 3GS users on 6.15.00 baseband > You can use the guide, preserve the baseband and update your device.
- Gevey SIM users > Preserve baseband and use Gevey.
- Ultrasn0w Users > Well, ultrasn0w is not updated yet to support iOS 5.0.1. But when its out, preserve the baseband and update your device.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.9:
1. Download iOS 5.0.1 firmware IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
2. Now Download iTunes 10.5.1 for Windows or Mac
4. Run Sn0wbreeze, give it the iOS 5.0.1 .IPSW file
5. From the settings choose wisely the stuff you need.
Go to Expert Mode for “preserve your baseband” option;
Note : if you are on 6.15.00 or using Gevey SIM or rely on Ultrasn0w to unlock iPhone. Once done, choose Build and continue.
6. Wait for Sn0wbreeze to cook the custom iOS 5.0.1 file.
7. Open iTunes 10.5.1 and connect your device and use “Shift + Restore” button and give it the custom iOS 5.0.1 file you cooked earlier (should be on your desktop).
8. Wait for iTunes to restore the device to iOS 5.0.1 custom .ipsw file.
9. Once the procedure is done and you see the “DONE” message.
Run iBooty (should be on your Desktop) and follow the instructions on your screen.
iBooty will push the DFU mode and after a few processes, your device should boot up.
How to Update to Stock iOS 5.0.1 and Preserve BaseBand using Sn0wbreeze 2.9 to Unlock iOS 5.0.1:
1. Download iOS 5.0.1 firmware IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
2. Now Download iTunes 10.5.1 for Windows or Mac
4. Run Sn0wbreeze, give it the iOS 5.0.1 .IPSW file
5- Choose BaseBand Preservation Mode
6- Wait Until Sn0wbreeze to cook the custom iOS 5.0.1 file with No Jailbreak .
7- Once the procedure is done and you see the “DONE” message.
8- Now You Must put your iDevice in DFU Mode Using iReb DFU Pwner [Greenpois0n]. and follow the instructions on your screen.
9- Now Open iTunes 10.5.1 and connect your device and use “Shift + Restore” button and give it the custom iOS 5.0.1 file you cooked earlier (should be on your desktop).
10- Once Done you have Successfully Updated to iOS 5.0.1 without Jailbreak and Preserve your Baseband to Unlock with Gevey Sim or Ultrasn0w.

How could I use ultrasn0w without jailbreak (item 10)?
This is the only process to undo a jailbreak that I have come across. Take it from me as I have spent hours trying to undo a jailbreak of 4.3.3 and have finally moved on to 5.0.1

how is this possible if its not jail broken.. only way to run Ultrasn0w is through cydia..
Exactly. That is ONE step, it allows you to unlock in a near future with Ultrasn0w. Step TWO is to actually jailbreak your device, but Ultrasn0w doesn’t work so it’s practically worthless.

I already upgraded to 5.1 from 4.1 without saving my baseband and now I cant use the gevey sim is there any way to fix it?
This does not work. I have a 4g asking me for a valid sim card in order to activate.
Already tried these steps and none work.

Hi I recently downgraded my iPhone 3gs from 5.0.1 to 4.3.3 and also installed the iPad baseband 6.15.00 to unlock it. If I should update again to 5.0.1 should the phone keep the ipad baseband or have to do it again via redsnow?
