A new update of the software redsn0w (0.9.11b1) will allow you to model A5 A5X processor restore an old IOS file with your SHSH 5.x (+ APticket) signed for this former iOS 5.x.
iOS 5.0.1 is not signed by Apple, so you can not sign your file SHSH + APTicket for this former iOS 5.0.1
This new version of redsn0w still can not jailbreak the iDevice and A5 A5X iOS 5.1 and 5.1 .1
This option to restore an old IOS 5x is only compatible for the model iPhone 4S , iPad 2 and iPad 3 for now, and lets you restore an old IOS 5x without needing to use iTunes software.
For the 4S model iPhone or iPad 3.2, redsn0w will metter upgrade your IOS to allow a restoration of an old IOS with 5x SHSH, so if you need to preserve your baseband for possible release unlocked with Ultrasn0w, not use this method of restoration.
launch the software redsn0w.
Go to the menu “Extras” and “Even More”.
Indicate the old and the last 5x IOS IOS current proposed by Apple.
Restoration can be done from your file SHSH (+ APTicket) you get on your computer or from the server SHSH Saurik.

Note: It is not possible to restore an old IOS 5x which is not intended for your model, eg iPad 3 and iOS 5.0.1
If you have SHSH files (. Shsh) recovered with e TinyUmbrella software, try to transfer these files in the file redsn0w (. Plist) if rename redsn0w does not recognize them.
This restoration method for models A5 and A5X iDevice can optionally be locked in a future update iOS by Apple.

i did this worked great on my iphone 4s, was 5.1 to 5.0.1.
but ipad 3 cant be downgraded to less then 5.1 because thats the first version it came out with? it can only downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.1
